School Of Public Service - SDI, July 2017, Office Of the Speaker

In the late afternoon of July 20, the SDI School Of Public Service reached the Office of the Speaker Of The US House. This was something of a reunion, for the Speaker, Congressman Paul Ryan (Republican, WI), had as a college student taken a course that Dr Arminio had taught at American University. The course was titled, appropriately enough, "Political Rhetoric"! Needless to say, the then young Mr Ryan was a very good student. Now, here we were in the Speaker's Office. The man briefing us is the Speaker's Communications Director, Mr Michael Ricci.

Later in the afternoon of July 20, the SDI School Of Public Service entered the august Capitol. It was doubling exciting to enter via the South Entrance, used mostly by government officials. We were now headed to the Office of the US House Minority Leader, Madame Nancy Pelosi (Democrat, CA)! Her Senior Advisor Reva Price graciously briefed us for more than 30 minutes. The scene was the awesome Rayburn Room.

In between making office visits, the SDI School of Public Service toured the Capitol Hill grounds. Dr Arminio conducted the "strolling" seminar. He pointed out all manner of amazing things in the surrounding majestic architecture. In the process, the stones seemed to come alive and talk to us! The handiwork of the Founding Fathers was seen from a new perspective.

At 1 o'clock on July 20, Mr Connor Bannon, SDI Junior Instructor, joined us for our visit to the Office of Congressman Dwight Evans, (Democrat, PA). Besides being on the SDI staff, Mr Bannon is a rising junior at George Washington University. We had another interesting briefing, this time care of Legislative Assistant Alyssa Innis.

The SDI School Of Public Service got off to a wonderful start when we visited the Office of US Senator Ron Johnson (Republican, WI). Mr Morgan T discussed environmental policy and other matters with Legislative Assistant Meris Petek. Dr Joseph Arminio, SDI Senior Instructor, was part of the discussions, too.
